Ditrolic Energy and Nippon Electric Glass Malaysia Forge Groundbreaking Virtual Power Purchase Agreement

Kuala Lumpur, 25 July 2024 – Ditrolic Energy Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (Ditrolic Energy), a leading renewable energy solutions provider, and Nippon Electric Glass Malaysia (NEG Malaysia), a subsidiary of Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd, have signed a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with a capacity of 50MWp. This landmark agreement signifies a major step forward in Malaysia's inaugural round Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), initiated by the Malaysian government to promote sustainable energy practices.

Under this 20-year agreement, Ditrolic Energy will supply clean energy to NEG Malaysia, facilitating their operations and contributing to their sustainable energy targets. The energy will be generated from Ditrolic Energy's solar plant located at Sungai Petani, Kedah, spanning over 150 acres of land. This initiative aligns with the CGPP, enabling businesses to utilise and gain advantages from solar energy without the requirement of owning or managing solar panel installations. For the first time in Malaysia, corporations can now procure large volumes of green electricity through this programme.

The VPPA represents a significant milestone for both companies, reflecting their commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon footprints. Through this collaboration, NEG Malaysia aims to enhance its operational sustainability, contributing to a greener future. NEG Malaysia is able to procure high-quality green electricity from a certified origin, which will effectively reduce CO₂ by approximately 41,000t-CO₂ per year.

Additionally, the project shall adheres to the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards, ensuring that it meets stringent environmental and social criteria. The project also qualifies under the RE100 criteria, a global initiative that encourages companies to commit to 100% renewable electricity. These endorsements underscore the project's high standards and its alignment with global sustainability goals.

Locally, this project supports Malaysia's sustainability goals, contributing to the national target of generating 40% of the country’s energy from renewable sources by 2035 and 70% by 2050. By advancing the adoption of clean energy, Ditrolic Energy and NEG Malaysia are playing important roles in supporting the country’s transition towards a sustainable energy future. This initiative is under the Ditrolic Energy’s EnerGreen programme, which is a retail green energy plan offering flexible clean energy purchase option. The EnerGreen programme helps corporations to purchase green electricity through local grid-connected plants without any upfront investment or maintenance costs, paying only for the green power they consumed.

Ditrolic Energy's Group CEO, Tham Chee Aun, commented on the partnership, stating, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Nippon Electric Glass Malaysia in this pioneering project. Our EnerGreen programme not only reflects our commitment to delivering clean, renewable energy solutions but also support our corporate clients in achieving their sustainability goals. Together, we are paving the way for an alternative and large volume green electricity purchase in Malaysia."

Masaya Kubo, Managing Director of NEG Malaysia said: “NEG Malaysia is honoured to collaborate with Ditrolic Energy on this project in Malaysia, a country that has introduced various policies toward decarbonization. This project is also an important and significant step forward for NEG group’s commitment to carbon neutrality.”

The Corporate Green Power Programme is an innovative initiative by the Malaysian government designed to help corporate consumers access clean energy solutions through agreements with solar power producers. This programme aims to reduce the reliance on non-renewable energy sources and promote a sustainable energy ecosystem.
